Headbourne Worthy
Headbourne Worthy is a mixed rural / semi-rural downland community sandwiched between the urban mass of Winchester and the semi-urban parish of Kings Worthy.
The area includes large tranches of open farmland. It lies approximately 2 miles (3.2km) to the north of Winchester on the western side of the Itchen Valley; it is separated from the main body of urban Winchester by approximately 2 miles (3.2km) of open farm land on its north-west boundary. Kings Worthy lies to its north-east boundary and the two villages meet together almost becoming one.
On its northern boundary the land rises up and across to the chalk downland of Wonston Downs providing a rolling open countryside landscape and long panoramic views over the downs.
The river Itchen flows along the south-eastern border and the A34 transverses the village from south to north bisecting the parish.
Kings Worthy
The villages of Kings Worthy and Abbots Worthy lie approximately 2 miles (3.2km) to the north of Winchester, on the edge of the chalk lands of the Hampshire Downs.
The rural settlement of Abbots Worthy is the smaller of the two villages and lies to the east of urban Kings Worthy. Parts of Kings Worthy and the whole of Abbots Worthy are designated Conservation Areas.
Much of Kings Worthy stands on the sides of a north-south dry valley at Springvale. It is bounded by the main London-Southampton railway to the west, A33 to the east and the A34 to the south.
The river Itchen flows along the south-eastern border of the parish with the M3 passing to the east, whilst open rolling countryside adjoins Kings Worthy’s western, north and north east boundaries
