Waste Disposal & Recycling

Winchester City Council are only responsible for a door to door household waste collection throughout our area. Currently this fortnightly wheelie bin service for household rubbish, which alternates with a Recycling and Garden Waste collection service is contracted to Serco.

Bulky Items
A special collection service is available for the disposal of bulky items such as fridges, furniture, larger quantities of household and garden waste. Note there is a charge for this service please contact Serco on 01962 828402 for more details.

 

HWRC
Alternatively you can take these items to the local HCC Household Waste Recycling Centre free of charge, which is at Bar End, Winchester. SO23 8RA. This HWRC site is provided and managed by Hampshire County Council and operated by their approved subcontractor. This site also accepts hazardous household waste.

It should be noted that HRWC’s are for household waste only and are not licensed to accept commercial trade waste. New restrictions came in to force from I4 February 2008 in respect of commercial type vehicles entering HWRC’s, which may affect householders using vans and trailers to dispose of unwanted items.

Recycle Bulky Items
Bulky items in good condition such as furniture and white goods can be reused by a number of charities including Oxfam, SCRATCH -Dorcas Project, Emmaus Hampshire & Trinity Centre. No longer needed computers, you would like to see reused, are recycled in accordance with the new WEEE Regulations, by the Society of St James, Southampton.

 

Bottle & Clothing Banks
Bottle, Cans, Textiles, Clothing and Shoe Banks are located in the public car park adjacent to the Springvale Post Office and Stores, Fraser Road, Kings Worthy. SO23 7PJ. and at King Charles Pub SO 23 7NU (Springvale Road entrance).


Whilst Bottle Banks only, are available at Tesco Express, 74 Springvale Road, Kings Worthy SO23 7ND & at The Worthies Sports & Social Club Lovedon Lane, Kings Worthy SO23 7NJ.

  • Oxfam furniture shops If you have some unwanted furniture in a good condition you'd like to donate, your nearest Oxfam furniture shop would love to hear from you: nearest shop is Southampton

  • SCRATCH Charity -The Dorcas Project  always requires donations of quality second hand furniture and certain domestic items. It covers Winchester City, Eastleigh, Romsey & Southampton.


  • Winchester UK Freecycle®  is part of the Freecycle Network® group. If you have a special item you do not use any more don’t throw it away join this group and post it on their website to ‘recycle’ but it must be free.
