Kings Worthy Book Worms Laugh Their Socks Off

This page was last updated on Thursday, February 24, 2011

Children at Kings Worthy Primary School kick off a week of activities to celebrate World Book Day (Thursday 3rd March) with a visit from Jeremy Strong, best selling children's author.

Jeremy is hoping to inspire young readers when he visits the school on Monday 28th February and get them "laughing their socks off" with ideas for writing their own comic stories.

Jeremy says his "sense of humour got stuck at age ten" and his books inspire young children, especially boys, to read simply for pleasure.

Foundation Stage children will be treated to an interactive Fairy Tale (with a comic twist) when the theatre group "Stories and More" visit on Tuesday morning (1st March).

On Friday 4th March all the children in the school will come dressed up as their favourite book character.

The playground will be awash with homemade versions of Captain Underpants, Where's Wally and Hermione Granger from Harry Potter.

Whilst in costume the children will each share their favourite book or a story they have written themselves with other children in their class.

Other activities taking place at Kings Worthy Primary School during Book Week:

  • D.E.A.R – Drop Everything And Read
