Barton Farm Update - November 2010

This page was last updated on Thursday, November 11, 2010

Following Cala Homes legal bid last month in the High Court, to the decision in July by the Communities’ Secretary, Eric Pickles, to scrap regional housing targets in pursuit of the government's "big society" initiative, his decision was ruled unlawful by the Court on 10 November 2010.

Despite the High Court ruling, later this month the coalition government are expected to introduce the Localism Bill to parliament, which will sweep away the controversial regional strategies.

Winchester City Council has pledged to defend its rejection of the scheme earlier this year, at the Public Inquiry now to be held in February.

An independent Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State will hold a Public Inquiry into the appeal by Cala Homes against the City Council’s failure to determine its Planning Application for 2000 homes at Barton Farm.

It will be held at Winchester Guildhall, High Street, Winchester SO23 9GH, on 8 February 2011 at 10am. The inquiry is expected to last 8 days.
