The unique dazzling award ceremony was held at the INTECH Science Centre and Planetarium Winchester and showcased a fantastic array of websites from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, in addition to outlining the ability of the web to be a powerful communication tool.

The Hantsweb awards seek to celebrate those websites that are leading the way in their field, reaching new heights of web excellence, innovation, design, accessibility and web services.

They play an acknowledged huge role in improving the standard of online services, encouraging good practice and raising awareness of the opportunities that Internet services can offer communities.

This number was then reduced to just three finalists with the Worthys website taking the top award trophy.

Launched this year for the first time, was the Best Public Voted Website Award, won by the University of Portsmouth Students' Union website.

Each of the websites selected as finalists were assessed by a team of judges with expertise and experience in their chosen field.

Overall they were looking for good practice, accessibility, ease of use, and relevance, with the needs and experience of end users being at the forefront of every design.

The judges said of the Worthys:

'A useful resource for local people, with a great use of images to give the site a truly local, community feel. The Worthys are a clear winner.'

Whilst the sponsor for the award, Howard Atkinson, ESRI UK Ltd, from Aylesbury, said that he was extremely impressed with the Worthys website.

This latest award is the second achieved by the Worthys within six months, the other award in October being the HALC Best Hampshire Website 2009.
