This page was last updated on Friday, June 11, 2010

One of the Many Colourful StallsRecord crowds approaching 4000 turned out for The 2010 Kings Worthy Village and Church Fete on Spring Bank Holiday Monday afternoon, attracted by the glorious sunshine and wide range of stalls and activities.

In opening the fete Professor Joy Carter, Vice Chancellor of Winchester University set the scene for the afternoon, arriving in a totally new eco friendly car from Volvo.

She emphasised the importance of traditional community events whilst highlighting the importance of conservation and sustainability.

Busy Bottle Tombola with Katherine Hodnett and Helen SouthworthThere were more than 60 stalls, an increase on 2009, with families enjoying everything from bric-a - brac, ice creams, bottle tombola, a coconut shy to cake and plant stalls.

Punch and Judy, face painting and a bouncy castle kept the younger visitors happy and enjoying themselves.

The barbeque was kept very busy all afternoon, whilst a number of local organisations, including the Worthys Conservation Volunteers, the Boaz Project and Kings Worthy Parish Council provided information on their activities.

The local Scouts group, Girl Guides and Hampshire Cadets all helped out throughout the day.

With their debut public performance The Winchester Contemporary Choir entertained the crowds with a diverse musical repertoire.

"It was simply great to see the children having real fun and chat with people you had not seen for several years", commented Malcolm Prince one of the organisers.

He went on to say “that the net income (after expenses) for this years fete was £6500 an increase 19% on 2009, which was really terrific and entirely down to the fantastic support provided by all the stall holders, local groups and organisations and of course the hard work of work of the fete committee”.

Funds raised at the Fete will support local charities, groups and organisations in addition to St. Mary’s Church.
