As the thaw continues the Met Office has warned of a moderate risk of a band of rain, sleet and wet snow will moving in from the west during Saturday morning. This may fall onto ground either where the temperature is below freezing or where there is existing snow cover. This gives the risk of widespread ice on untreated surfaces.

Some side roads and pavements in the Worthys still remain treacherous and difficult to negotiate as the thaw continues.

Bus Services
All bus services in our area are back to normal. Current details on the Stagecoach Bus Service Updates  are available.

Refuse Collections
WCC have advised that refuse collections are expected to make significant progress today into the outstanding work of normal scheduled refuse & recycling collections. However some areas may still be difficult first thing, but crews will return to these areas later today.

As part of their catch-up arrangements collection crews will be working tomorrow Saturday 16 January to clear outstanding refuse. As a result scheduled recycling and outstanding recycling collections will resume Monday 18 January.

Residents should ‘continue to leave their bins outside their home until they have been emptied’.  This means that some households may therefore have 2 bins left outside awaiting collection; both bins should remain out until they are emptied. When bins are emptied as part of the catch up arrangements all the household rubbish will be taken so do not worry leaving out any additional side waste.

Current Refuse & Recyling Collection Updates are available. For further advice call the Recycle for Winchester team on 0800 008 6050.

Garden Waste & Christmas Trees
Unfortunately, collections of garden waste have been suspended. WCC advice is  to hold back any garden waste including real Christmas trees until such a time that the garden waste collection service resumes, we will inform of this via this website. Alternatively where possible, you can take your garden waste and Christmas tree to the Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Bar End, Winchester.

Glass Bottle & Jar Recycling Banks
Collections from bottle recycling banks in the Worthys have been disrupted by the weather conditions which could result in recycling banks becoming full. If possible please hold back your glass bottles & and jars until weather conditions improve. Alternatively if you can, please take them to the Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Bar End, Winchester.

Post
Royal Mail is continuing to deliver and collect mail wherever it is safe and possible for their staff to do so. Contingency plans are in place to keep mail moving and keep any delays to an absolute minimum for customers. In areas affected by weather conditions or where properties are inaccessible, there may be an unavoidable delay to mail.

Look after your neighbours
As the extreme weather continues it is important to look out for elderly people who may be living nearby. Residents can help elderly people by seeing if their neighbours need any shopping so they don't have to make any unnecessary journeys. Help keep their driveways clear of ice and snow so if they have carers coming in that they can access them safely or if older residents do choose to venture out themselves that they can do so safely.
