A very positive initial meeting was held at the end of July, when over 20 representatives from Parish Councils, the Church and many village organisations came together to discuss the viability of holding a Worthys Festival in September 2011.
The aim is to include music, cabaret, open gardens, a village quiz, an arts exhibition, barbecue and even a car cavalcade etc, as part of a week long festival.
It was agreed that the idea had great merit and will bring the community together, as well as offering opportunities for fund raising for local good causes and organisations, and raise the profile of participating groups.
A Steering Group of 4/6 people under the leadership of City Councillor Jane Rutter is to be formed.
More detailed plans will be drawn up together with a business plan to put to local businesses and private individuals to enable them to support the Festival through sponsorship.
The Steering Group will also be applying for grants to support the publicity needed for the Festival.
