Traffic delays can be expected to continue on Nations Hill from its junction with Springvale Road to Church Lane until around 22 June.

The delays are due to essential renewal of metallic gas mains in Nations Hill with modern plastic ones which will last for at least 80 years.

The work commenced in early April and is being undertaken by Southern Gas Networks having been originally planned for early January 2009.

The increase in time to complete the work is due to practical issues encountered on site, initially it had been hoped to be able to use modern ‘No Dig’ technology on the work.

Unfortunately this has not been possible due to a large water main lying adjacent and very close to the gas main.

For technical reasons this has prevented the use of the ‘No Dig’ procedure which would have enabled the work to have been completed in the original expected time of 5 weeks.

Properties which will have their gas supplies affected were notified by Southern Gas Networks of their arrangements to undertake the work in mid March.
