Fire crews from across the county tackled a serious thatched roof fire to a house in secluded Pudding Lane Headbourne Worthy on Sunday 23 March.

The Fire and Emergency services were alerted at 12.50pm and due to the close proximity of other residential properties, 12 appliances and more than 70 fire fighters attended.

The blaze totally destroyed the whole of the roof and the inside of the property was severely damaged.

Fortunately the lady occupant escaped from the property, without injury.

The fire fighters were assisted by Winchester’s Special Equipment Unit, Eastleigh’s Multi-role Vehicle and Water Carrier and the Emergency Catering team.

The British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service’s team of volunteers were also in attendance.

Majority of the fire crews were stood down at about 4.30pm.

However fire service personnel remained in attendance overnight cooling down hot spots at the property.

A Fire Investigation team is currently seeking the cause of the blaze.
