Swine Flu Advice

The NHS has now launched the new self care online and telephone National Pandemic Flu Service which provides the vary latest news and advice on the Swine Flu Virus, including information about prevention and what to do should you think you have the Swine Flu.

 

NHS Direct will no longer handle the initial calls from people with flu like symptoms.

 

If you think that you have the Swine Flu contact the National Pandemic Flu Service  online first, or call 0800 1 513 100.

 

If you or a member of your family has any of the following symptoms and a temperature of 38°C and above or feels hot, you may have swine flu.

The typical symptoms are
:

 

  • sudden fever (a high body temperature of 38°C/100.4°F or above), and
  • sudden cough.

Other symptoms may include:

 

  • headache,
  • tiredness, 
  • chills,
  • aching muscles,
  • limb or joint pain,
  • diarrhoea or stomach upset,
  • sore throat,
  • runny nose,
  • sneezing, and
  • loss of appetite.

 

If you feel unwell and have flu- like symptoms and are concerned that you may have swine flu:

Calls to these numbers are free from UK landlines and most mobiles.

Only call your GP directly if:

- you have a serious underlying illness,
- you are pregnant,
- you have a sick child less than one year of age,
- your condition suddenly gets much worse, or
- your condition is still getting worse after seven days (five for a child).
