On a sunny Sunday March afternoon, some 15 Worthys Conservation Volunteers met up, including two new faces to continue work on clearing the station platform at Worthy Down Halt, carrying on from where they left off in February.
Trees and scrub are steadily being removed, not only to help preserve the platform from irreparable damage but also to make it recognisable again.

They also hope to enhance the platform by creating a wildflower bed, encouraging more diversity of wildlife.
A lot more of the scrub was cleared along both ends of the platform, and also this time a few of the bigger trees were removed several of which were leaning precariously.
The task of removing the bigger trees was made much easier by the use of a 36” bow saw, provided by Hampshire Path Partnership.

The felling of these larger trees was accompanied by the traditional lumberjack warning cry of ‘timber’ as they came down.
Trunks and thick branches were cut down to size and piled neatly to create log-pile habitats. All other scrub was stacked down the embankment.
A good portion of the platform is now exposed – however, a little more still needs to be done (at a future date), although it has been agreed that a good length should be left at each end to allow the wildflowers to get established.
