Pedestrians, cyclists, walkers and residents will find the village a little safer now.

Headbourne Worthy is one of 10 villages in the Winchester District, out of a total of 38 countywide, to benefit from the first tranche of Hampshire County Councils ‘Village 30 Project’ initiative.

Headbourne Worthy Parish Council first applied for the village to be included in April 2007.

Much discussion and work has been done since then for the new limits to become a reality. HCC Highways installed new signage and road markings to show where the new limits commence.

All roads entering the village as well those in the village now have a 30mph limit which will be implemented on 12th September.

Jane Rutter local resident and parish councillor said ‘I am delighted as a keen walker I find the traffic speeds intimidating.

Many people cross both London Road and also Springvale Road to the Farm Shop. Slower speeds will provide safer walking, less noise and help retain the rural feel of the village’.

Police will be carrying out regular speed checks, with Hampshire County Council mounting a publicity campaign to increase awareness of the new limits.
