Young people were among volunteers helping parents and residents to celebrate The Tree Council’s National Tree Week (26th November to 7th December) in Eversley Park, Kings Worthy.
Backed by a grant from environmental charity The Tree Council the lead UK tree campaigning partnership, they planted field maples and cherries beside the play park on Sunday 30th November.
“We are delighted that the Friends of Eversley Park will be supporting National Tree Week, our annual tree planting festival to celebrate trees and woods,” said the Tree Council’s Director-General, Pauline Buchanon Black.
“We need trees, now more than ever, to help ensure a green future for everything from humans to wildlife and bugs. Without trees, our towns and countryside would look bleak and featureless. But more than that, they would be unable to sustain life as we know it.”

“We are particularly keen to encourage children to take part in community tree planting. This is very much in the spirit of The Tree Council’s National Tree Week, which involves increasing numbers of young people under 16.”
“Several months ago when we were in the middle of a very hot and sunny spell, a group of mums were chatting in the park saying how nice it would be to have some shade near the play area. With The Tree Council’s grant it will now be possible to make that a reality.” Friends of Eversley Park have also raised money towards the project from local parents and residents.
The National Tree Week list of events is on The Tree Council’s website (www.treecouncil.org.uk). Information about events is also available by calling The Tree Council infoline, 020 7940 8180 (during office hours).
