Chairman of Kings Worthy Parish, Councillor Peter Warrener and Councillor Dennis Curling of Headbourne Worthy Parish Council both independently attended Southampton Airport’s Community & Stakeholder Conference, given by BAA in Southampton on 4 July.
The annual event provides an update to over 100 invited delegates from the local community, councils, business organisations, residents associations and regional bodies.

Business Update.
The MD of BAA Southampton gave an overview of current issues facing aviation industry - Economic, Environmental and Competition Commission Report on UK Airports. Annual passenger numbers are nearly 2m and growing at 4% year on year, whilst aircraft movements are less.
Noise complaints have reduced; the airport is participating with the DEFRA Noise Action Plans – Consultation 2008.
The airport is planning for the celebration event in 2010 - 100years of Flying in Hampshire,
Aviation & The Environment.
ERA presented details about aviation and the environment. Aviation currently contributes just 1.5% to total European CO² emissions, with roads contributing 52.8% and residential and commercial fuel burn contributing 39%.
Surface Access Update.
During spring 2009 a new footbridge will be provided at Southampton Parkway. It will provide a covered walkway, as well as lift access in direct line with the airports adjoining footpath access. This summer innovative live travel information screens will be installed for arriving air passengers. It will be the first UK airport providing bus, rail and road traffic live information.
‘Breeze Through’.
A new campaign to develop the whole passenger experience through Southampton. Airport Ambassadors using WiFi technology are now on the airport floor to assist passengers. Overall improvements include new check in desks, security search area redesigned, baggage systems upgraded whilst the restaurant areas are to be refreshed.

Highlighted the many community involvement schemes the airport undertakes involving many of its staff.
