- The Royal British Legion (Men’s Section)
The Royal British Legion (TRBL) provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants.
The Legion was founded in 1921 as a voice for the ex-Service community and over 450,000 members continue to ensure that this voice does not go unheard.
In the Worthys, the TRBL Branch has existed almost since the formation of the Legion itself. It continues the various functions and traditions of the parent body. One of great importance is the annual Poppy Appeal in November, when funds are raised throughout the country.
Collections are undertaken locally by a small group of willing and dedicated volunteers. As part of the National Act of Remembrance, the Branch is represented at the local church services and wreath laying ceremonies each year on Remembrance Sunday.
The Branch also takes part in the Village Fete held annually in May.
Membership of the Legion and the Branch is open to all those having an interest in supporting their work. A service background is no longer a prerequisite of applying to join.
Prospective new members will be made very welcome.
There now only a very small core of members in Kings Worthy who meet informally from time to time.
