- Red Cross Hospital Trolley Shop
Nearly sixty years ago a Kings Worthy farmer's wife started the Red Cross trolley shop for patients in the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and it is still going round the wards every Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
Currently there are fourteen volunteers - over half of whom are from Kings Worthy.
The trolley has become a welcome sight, not only to patients but to staff and visitors alike. Frequently patients are rushed in from their home or off the street without the essential necessities for washing. That is where the service comes into its own, with over a hundred items on the trolley.
The lady volunteers are usually referred to as “The Trolley Dollies", "The Yummy Girls" and even the "The Naughties" as of course, they do have the good things in life like chocolate, sweets, cold cans, biscuits and savouries available.
Their aim is firstly, the patients and second profit, by keeping the prices competitive.
ALL PROFIT IS DIVIDED BETWEEN THE BRITISH RED CROSS AND R.H.C.H.
If you see it around the Hospital - please support the Trolley Shop.
